Seabrook West is an extended care facility of their Seabrook East facility of New Jersey. Seabrook West claims to be just outside of Wellsboro Pennsylvania but is actually roughly 45 minutes away in the small town of Westfield Pennsylvania. Westfield is a town of almost 1,000 residents with one traffic light. The main attractions of the town are the Acorn gas station and the Dollar General.
Seabrook West residents are almost exclusively from their East location. Most of the patients are from caucasion upper class families and have a history of drug abuse. The program claims to require a 90 day stay however will accept shorter term stays if paid in full. They do claim to offer scholorships however rarely follow through with honoring them. They will in their own words check the credit of your entire family including any living grandparents to cover tuition.
At Seabrook West, you are responsible for your own treatment and recovery. There are only two counselors on site. Most of the treatment and recovery work is left up to the patients. There are only two counseling session per day for approximately an hour each for the first 30 days of treatment followed by one for the remaining time. One of these sessions is called 'teach the teacher' whereby the patients are given a topic to research and present to the rest of the community. The remaining staff have very little experience and knowledge about drug and alcohol addiction and many are related.
The program is designed to immerse residents in the AA and NA ways. This includes a required six outside meetings per week for the first 30 days followed by a required 3 outside meetings a week there after. Most of these meetings are at least 45-60 minutes away meaning nearly three hours in total per day.
